A few brief additions to the last newsletter regarding events this weekend. See also http://www.to-music.ca/events.htm

1. Cuban festival

I neglected to mention the "Havana Cultura" Cuban festival running all weekend, centred on Queen West. There are concerts each night (2 of them free, and each of them offering a chance to win a vacation in Cuba. Cuban food, art and drink is alsoa available. Check http://www.to-music.ca/events.htm for a summary of events, and http://havanacultura.com/canada/ for all the details.

As well, Cuban salsa stars, Son de Cali will be at the Sound Academy (formerly Docks) Saturday night. See www.cubaintoronto.com for details.

2. Jason Wilson (& Daniel Nebiat) CD Releases tonight

Tonight is the second night of Jason Wilson's CD Release for The Peacemaker's Chauffeur at Hugh's Room. I saw the opening night last night -- a great night of music. He's a highly creative musician; the new CD was worth the long wait. The great Jamaican guitarist, Ernest Ranglin along with sax player Pee Wee Ellis guest. Last night, long-time Toronto R&B star joined the group for a tear-through of James Brown's Cold Sweat (written by Pee Wee).

Highlights from the show will be on this Saturday's Big City Small World,  CBC Radio 1 (99.1 in Toronto), between 5-6pm. More of the concert will be rebroadcast next month on Canada Live. As will last Tuesday's Baba Zula show, and... tonight's CD Release for Eritrean krar player Daniel Nebiat.

3. Defending the Arts: Town Hall, Sep. 28

Arts funding is under attack from the federal government; the election is a good time to speak up. Bravo Canada is hosting a Town Hall, "Does Art Matter? A Bravo! Election Special" at The Masonic Temple, 888 Yonge (at Davenport). Space is limited, and RSVP's are requested. For details and contact info see http://www.bravo.ca/townhall/

4. Scarborough doings: Sat. Sep. 27

It must be the distance from the centre of the universe :-)... I neglected to post this on the events page. Earthsong Village (2436 Kingston Rd) is holding its 2nd annual Scarborough Bluffs walk on Saturday afternoon, and Adam Solomon (Tikisa, African Guitar Summit) will be playing his "African Rennaissance Blues" in the afternoon in the store. See http://www.earthsongvillage.com/ for details. Nancy Barrett will also have some of her photography on display (and for sale).
