In this issue:
1. Great radio tonight at 7: Ernest Ranglin & Pee Wee Ellis
2. Highlights of the next week
1. A RADIO TREAT TONIGHT
A quick and late heads-up about a real radio
treat tonight. Tonight, David Dacks, host of Abstract Index on
CIUT FM (89.5, or online at
www.ciut.fm) will be hosting three musicians featured in the
Small World festival. See David's notes on the show here:
http://www.abstractindex.blogspot.com/
The following note was sent by music publicist
Sebastian Cook.
Tonight at 7 pm on "The Abstract Index",
host David Dacks welcomes two true giants of music -- one of
the most important musicians ever to come out of Jamaica, the
great souljazz guitarist ERNEST RANGLIN (Bob Marley, The
Skatallites) along with James Brown bandleader & "Cold Sweat"
penner PEE WEE ELLIS. Both of these legends are in town to
perform with JASON WILSON as part of his 2-night PEACEMAKER'S
CHAUFFEUR CD release celebration, Thursday September 25 and
Friday September 26 at Hugh's Room, 2261 Dundas St. W. Setting
the table at 6:30 will be Luke Quaranta of North Carolina
Afro-rock fusion pioneers TOUBAB KREWE, who hit the stage at
Revival on Sunday, September 28. One of the best lineups any
radio show in these parts has seen for quite some time!
Both shows are part of the SMALL WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL, running
through September 30 at venues around the city.
2. A FEW UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS
See

other shows
A couple of past Small World Festival shows:
Chiwoniso (Zimbabwe) was a tremendous opening for the Festival.
She and her band (which included her brother and sister) were a
knockout, as is her CD, Rebel Woman.
Baba Zula's Turkish funk last night at the Lula
had the place rocking. Toronto's Brenna MacCrimmon joined them
for a few songs.
Some upcoming Small World Shows. See

Sep. 28: Toubab Krewe. Described as
"Psychedelic neo-griot frenzy" by the Village Voice,
they mix traditional West African instruments like the kora
and kamele ngoni with deep grooves. Should be a treat for
those who like their African rhythms funky.
-
Sep. 30: Vieux Farka Toure. His Harbourfront
show was sold out last year. Don't miss him this time.
And, another reminder of Daniel Nebiat's CD
release this Friday at the Tranzac Club.
